We are an organisation devoted to introducing youngsters aged 8 - 18 to the sport of Fencing - an individual sport which values sportsmanship and honour.
To develop a passion to compete, youngsters need a nurturing environment, full of enthusiasm, friendship and loyalty. We strive to develop a sense of community and friendship where older fencers assist new entrants, showing them the value of consideration and sportsmanship, a sense of belonging and self respect.
Our long term goal is to raise the standards for those who participate at all levels in our sport, hence the term High Performance.
We are very fortunate to have Song Yang as our coach. He has been teaching since 2009, mainly youth and adult foil, and has been coaching our young fencers since 2016.
He holds a number of titles including mens individual and team foil champion, Shenyang; Mens individual and team foil champion, Liaoning Province; Fourth in Mens individual foil, Nationals; second in Mens team foil, Nationals.
Song is a great asset to our club, has a firm but fun approach to coaching and is loved by all our fencers.
Fencing is often referred to as a physical game of chess - it requires both physical prowess and mental ability.
Fencing is a very athletic sport. To gain endurance, explosive speed and flexibility takes effort so we try to incorporate fun fitness elements into each training session.
An extra inch on your lunge or a quicker start can make all the difference in a fencing bout!
Fencing is also a workout for the mind. It requires focus, discipline, and quick reflexes.
Learning, practicing, and perfecting fencing's intricate movements will nurture a healthy sense of confidence in anyone who does it and make it even more fun!
Competitions are a great learning experience and a great way to show off skills, build confidence and practice sportsmanship.
Each year there are plenty of competitions to choose from, depending on individual level and experience.
Group training sessions take place on Saturday mornings 9am to 12pm at Pulse Fencing in Auckland's CBD.
The program typically includes a warmup, various fitness drills, skills sessions and finally bouts using electric scoring boxes.
What to bring:
Private lessons are 30 minute one-on-one sessions and a great way to focus on specific skills especially in the build-up before a competition. These take place on Saturdays after the group trainings but must be booked in advance as there are only two slots available each Saturday.
Fees are paid on a “per term” basis. We understand that occasionally school, family or work obligations may get in the way but we still need to pay our coach and venue hire, therefore cannot refund missed training dates. We thank you for your understanding.
